Lester E. Wood Jr.
1927 ~ 2009
Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather,
brother and friend, Lester E. Wood Jr., 82, of Provo, Utah,
passed away July 20, 2009. He died peacefully with his wife and
family around him. He was born June 13, 1927, in Gainesville,
Arkansas, to Lester and Edith Wood. He served his country
during WWII in the United States Marine Corps. He married
Patricia Havnaer on February 17, 1951, in Conover, North
Carolina. He graduated from college and taught high school
math for a number of years, several in Tucson, Arizona at the
newly constructed Catalina High School. He and his wife loved
Arizona and had fond memories of their years there. In the
early 1960s they moved back to North Carolina where he
worked as a data processing manager for Carolina Mills. Here,
with his wife, they raised their two children: Michael D. Wood
(Donna) of Orem, UT, and Jennifer P. Wilkinson of Lehi, UT. He
was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints and served in various callings. He was a brilliant man
and had a love for mathematics. He also loved sports, playing
minor league baseball as a catcher in the late 1940s and early
1950s. He was an avid golfer who could "drive the ball a mile".
He loved a challenge and had a great entrepreneurial spirit. He
had a great sense of humor which remained with him until the
end of his life. He dedicated his life to the service of others and
his family. He consistently placed others' needs above his own,
sacrificing many of the luxuries of life to ensure that his family
would be cared for and the needs of others met. His was truly a
life of Christ-like charity. He will be missed dearly by family and
friends.
